Job Description
Position Title: Saw Operator

Wage: $16-$16.50/hour

Shift: 2nd

Hours: Monday-Friday 4:30pm-5am

Saw Operator Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Perform duties to operate carbide and band saws to cut and trim material to specifications
- Actively participate in safety program to ensure the continued success of the program; maintain knowledge of process through training, perform scheduled observations, and provide quality feedback to promote safer work behaviors and conditions
- Review shop order and request material required from Material Handlers or provide own material handling; review material specifications against shop orders received, verify order number, heat number, lengths, weights, and number of pieces to cut
- Examine material visually for flaws or defects
- Check saw equipment for proper operating conditions, wear items, coolant levels, and mixture concentrations utilizing TPM and 6S
- Load material into machine utilizing overhead crane and secure to ensure safe operation on forgings that can exceed 100,000lbs using various lifting apparatus
- Train on and inspect lifting equipment to ensure safe practices
- Calculate chain and strap adjustments to ensure the safe lifting and transporting of parts
- Check for variations in material density to determine appropriate cut-off weight
- Layout parts prior to cutting
- On all orders, layout first piece and have appropriate personnel check size and tolerance for conformance to blueprint or specifications; monitor the saw throughout process
- Operate saw, verify dimensions of material before and throughout the cutting process, adjust machine stops, feeds, and speeds as necessary to conform to specifications and given tolerances throughout the cutting process
- Complete production timecards ensuring that accurate records are maintained; complete and move operation steps in production software
- Ensure proper identification recorded on completed part and router, following cutting to ensure traceability
- Complete necessary inspection and quality reports using measurement equipment such as tape measure; replace blades as necessary, monitor and report blade performance, enter blade sheets online, and remove and segregate scrap according to standard procedures
- Communicate production and equipment problems to appropriate personnel
- Work in cooperation with all fellow employee owners to sustain a strong team atmosphere
- Other duties as required
- Follow all safety rules, including wearing all mandatory PPE and keep work area in clean condition

Saw Operator Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Pass a physical and a drug test
- Forklift and overhead crane experience
- Ability to use common inspection tools (calipers, tape measure, etc.) and hand tools
- Blueprint reading skills
- Basic math skills
- Basic computer skills
- Lift 65lbs (up to 5 times a day)
- Climbing, overhead lifting, standing for long periods of time
- Temperatures above 100 degrees, and below 30 degrees
- Operate job duties in conditions where there is dirt, dust, loud noises
- Operate job duties in small areas and areas where pinch points exists
- Shoveling of chips/swarf
- 10-12-hour workdays, 60+ hours per week
