Summary

Performs financial reporting and oversees fund accounting, including daily mutual fund net asset value calculations, for Northwestern Mutual Series Funds. Specifically, you will: prepare material accounting entries and maintain fund's accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash and expense accounts; coordinate with portfolio managers on fair value of fund securities; identify, research and take action to balance differences within accounting system, cash accounts and asset security positions; prepare monthly reconciliations; prepare/report financial results for fund investments; prepare financial reports for policy owners; prepare regulatory filings; review portfolio holdings for compliance with SEC/IRS regulations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparation of material accounting entries and maintenance of the mutual fund's accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash and expense accounts.
  • Coordinate with portfolio managers on the fair value of securities held in the mutual funds.
  • Identify, research and take necessary actions to balance differences within the accounting system, cash accounts and asset security positions.
  • Preparation of monthly reconciliations of cash, custody and other various financial information.
  • Preparation and reporting of financial results for all investments owned by the funds.
  • Preparation of semi-annual and annual financial reports to policyowners.
  • Preparation of regulatory filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
  • Assists with the research of special items and projects as needed.
  • Reviews portfolio holdings to ensure compliance with all applicable SEC and IRS regulations and investment restrictions.
  • Recommend new methods to allow for added operational efficiencies.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with internal and external contacts such as information systems, auditors, custodians and investment advisors.
  • Preparation of quarterly reports to the Mutual Fund Board of Directors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated superior analytical and problem solving ability
  • High degree of self motivation and proven ability to meet strict daily deadlines
  • Proven ability to work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Displays a professional attitude and is able to work well under pressure with some direction
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work and resolve routine problems
  • Shows ability to retrieve and utilize information from accounting system and other sources
  • Experience with mutual fund/investment accounting or reporting preferred
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$47,600.00

Pay Range - End:

$88,400.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
