Summary of Responsibilities:

Conducts the economic benefit analysis of electrical transmission system operations & potential projects utilizing various tools including Power Flow, Contingency Analysis, Security Constrained Economic Dispatch (SCED) studies, etc.  Coordinate with Midwest ISO (MISO), generation entities, regulatory agencies, local load serving utilities, and other electric transmission providers to obtain necessary inputs into the modeling process.



Essential Responsibilities:
  • Conducts the economic benefit analysis of electrical transmission system operations & potential projects utilizing various tools including Power Flow, Contingency Analysis, Security Constrained Economic Dispatch (SCED) studies, etc. 
  • Coordinate with Midwest ISO (MISO), generation entities, regulatory agencies, local load serving utilities, and other electric transmission providers to obtain necessary inputs into the modeling process.
  • Perform cost/benefit analysis of the options
  • Conducts presentations at various stakeholder meetings and forums
  • Research and develop new tools/method to determine market impacts on the ATC customers
  • Provides technical support to licensing and certification processing related to new transmission line projects including drafting and presenting testimony.
  • Prepares formal, written recommendations for necessary reinforcements to the transmission system.  Works with Engineering and others in a project team approach to refine project scopes and ensure development of appropriate alternatives, estimates and specifications.
  • Serve as the organization representative at various MISO and industry working groups
  • Cross-trains with and provides support to other planning groups and functions as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager Economic Planning


Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering

                                   

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in transmission planning or related discipline. Knowledge of electric theory, transmission planning concepts and transmission system operations. Ability to use various electric system analysis tools such as power flow and contingency analysis.  Ability to prepare both written and oral presentation materials of complex matters in a simplified manner. Experience with PTI PSS/E, MUST, and PROMOD software preferred.
  • Two years demonstrated experience with LMP based energy markets along with proven application of this knowledge towards the valuation of electric transmission investment. 
  • Ability to prepare both written and oral presentation materials on complex matters in a simplified manner. Experience/knowledge in state regulatory environments, economics, project development and approvals.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Executive, administrative or clerical position in which employee is primarily involved with sedentary work, including keyboarding. 
  • Requires occasional lifting objects 10 to 15 pounds and/or light physical activity including bending, squatting, stooping, twisting, reaching, walking, standing and working on irregular surfaces.
